What do I need to know before connecting to a patient portal?
To connect to a patient portal, first search to see if Primary Record’s partner, 1up Health, has a connection. If you cannot find your healthcare provider’s portal or haven't yet set up a patient portal, the Primary Record Support team is on standby to assist.
To access and refresh patient portal information securely, you will always need the username and password to organize electronic medical information into Primary Record.

📝 Please note that connections to patient portals can look different depending on whether your healthcare provider uses Epic’s MyChart, an Oracle (Cerner), or another electronic health records (EHR) vendor.

Pulling electronic medical data to organize into Primary Record generally follow the below steps:
- Search for your doctor or health system, or enter your state.
- Click on the patient portal that is familiar to you.
- You will be taken outside the Primary Record app to sign in to your patient portal like normal.
- Select the individual you want to request electronic medical data, if you serve as a Proxy to multiple family members in a patient portal. If you do not see the name of the Medical Profile you want to organize, then contact [email protected].
- Your portal may identify you are using our partner, 1upHealth, which is regulated by a different set of federal laws for security and privacy.
- Review the checklist to ensure that 1upHealth has verified to not sell, share, or use your data.
- Select Continue.
- Review the checklist of medical data you have a right to download electronically into Primary Record.
- Set the time frame to help maintain a connection that ensures Primary Record can help import and organize what medical information is given access to. We recommend at least 1 week.
- Select Allow access.
- Watch the blue pill button fill up as 1upHealth creates a secure token to bring over your electronic medical information to organize into Primary Record.
- Return to Primary Record’s app where you will see the app is refreshing to pull in the data to organize.
- Select Health to review the medical data that has been downloaded and organized into Primary Record!
